Our hermeneutical/interpretive journey started with the Authors Intended Meaning (the AIM). Paul meant something specific when he wrote his letter the Ephesians, just as David meant something specific when he penned the words of Psalm 51. In life we don't question what the government meant by SPEED LIMIT: 55 or what the IRS means by TAXES DUE APRIL 15. Without reason we ask ourselves "What does this bible passage mean to you?"
Well, honestly, I could care less what that passage means to you, I care about what it meant to the Author.
We then discussed the river that separates us from the world of the Biblical authors. Our students did an excellent job of understanding the breadth of the distance between our world and that of Paul's.
They are moldable, excited, and hard-working! I am already excited for next week.
